Racing sim

It started with a used wheelbase, wheel and pedals off Facebook Marketplace. Then a guy was selling a chassis with a Recaro seat. It's been one upgrade after another since.

My racing sim in 3D: the Recaro seat and its harness on the aluminium chassis, the wheel on the Simucube, the pedals, the shifter and handbrake, three screens with the gauge cluster on top, the speakers on their stands, all on the rug.

Build log

  1. Used, off Facebook Marketplace

A Simucube 2 Pro wheelbase, a Sparco wheel and Heusinkveld pedals, all secondhand.

Three Heusinkveld pedals bolted to the aluminum chassis.
  2. Then a chassis with a Recaro seat

Someone was selling theirs, seat and all.

A friend trying the first version: the Recaro seat, wheel and pedals on the bare chassis, no screens yet.
  3. A new PC for an old monitor

I built a small form factor PC with a 5080 and ran it on a 27-inch monitor I already had.

The new small PC in a blue case next to the old 27-inch monitor, booting up.
The first version: the Recaro seat and wheel in front of one monitor, cables everywhere.
  4. Then, slowly, everything else

    • A seat belt tensioner and Sabelt harness
    • ButtKickers
    • A wind simulator
    • Bookshelf speakers, on mounts
    • A digital gauge cluster, which I mounted myself
The rig between two bookshelf speakers on stands.
Winnie sitting beside the rig, the digital gauge cluster above the screens.
  5. Three OLEDs and a 5090

Three 27-inch 240Hz OLEDs, then a 5090 to run them. About 250 fps on average in Forza Horizon 6.
