A shared care app for my dog that turned into a record of him growing up.

  • Pixel room based on our home
  • Photos, places and his timeline

It started in Notes

When Winnie came home in October 2025, Kimberly and I kept a shared Apple Note of everything he did. It worked, but all we really wanted to know was when he last went out, whether he'd eaten, and who did what.

  • Every pee and poop, with the time and inside or out
  • Meals, naps, walks and training
  • Our own emoji shorthand by December
Our shared Apple Note for December 16 and 17, 2025: a column of times, each with emoji for pee, poop, sleep or a meal, and whether it was indoors or outdoors.

The first version

The first version gave the Note some structure:

  • Time since his last pee and poop
  • His wake window
  • One-tap logging with an undo
  • Tags for inside or out, accidents, and who took him
The first version's Today screen: dark, with last pee and poop times, a wake window, a schedule bar and log buttons.

Two more tries

  • In May, a storybook look, with Sims-style bars for bladder, poop, energy and hunger
  • Rebuilt for sharing in September, with reliable sync, who did what, a ping when the other person logs, a shared fridge for notes, and a tiny pixel Winnie in the corner
The May 2026 version: a cream screen with Sims-style bars for bladder, poop, energy and hunger above four big log buttons.

The September 2026 version: a shared fridge with sticky notes and a polaroid of Winnie.

A room that's actually his

In October, Today became a pixel version of our living room, with his real stuff in it: the cream sofa, the arch lamp, his crate and pink bed, Snuggle Puppy.

  • He naps, eats and goes on walks based on what we log
  • The window shows the real sky and moon
  • His closet has his actual outfits: a blue bandanna, his harness and a striped shirt
  • Pee and poop are the two big buttons, since they're what we log most

His harness comes on for bathroom trips. Then he returns to your pick.

Care photos became his story

Logging a poop asks for a photo, which you can skip. Those photos and the ones we import land on one timeline, with his age at every point since the day he was born.

  • Kimberly and I can each add our own memory to the same moment
  • Once a year it makes a small album, one cover photo per month
Winnie's Story timeline: his birth on July 25, 2025, then a photo of him at six weeks old among leaves.

He's on TikTok too

The app is the private record. His TikTok is the public one, more than 150 videos of him growing up.

Insights

Insights only describe what we actually logged.

  • Months with only a few logged days show as hollow dots
  • Dashed lines mark when the way we logged changed
  • Two months only get compared if both have two weeks of data
Winnie's whole-life view of bathroom breaks: monthly dots from July 2025 to October 2026, hollow for sparse months, with dashed lines where logging changed.

Plans

  • Food counts down a meal at a time, with a reorder link
  • Stock checks for wipes, poop bags and his heartworm meds
  • It reads our Google Calendar, but a vet visit only counts as care once one of us confirms it

Where it's at

  • Most of the changes came from using it every day
  • It's a web app on both our phones, built in plain JavaScript on Netlify, and it works offline
  • Thousands more photos of Winnie still to add

Screens are from our phones. The May and September screens and the clips use demo data. The app is private to our household.
